I used to be a AVG fanboy, but they seemed to be heading in the wrong direction lately. I switched over to ESET 4.0 myself and love it.
I'm running it on Windows 7 7260 right now and it take very little resources at all and when it scans, it is FAST. Lannie |

Aha! I searched Google for "This site was blocked because it contains ad content". 1 result. This thread. Wow, apparently no one is complaining about this message.
I am just trying to figure out why this is happening to me. I am in advertising and I certainly don't need to have ad pages blocked. An area on the page saying blocked is way more distracting than an ad. Ads tend to be so common that they are invisible anyway. (might be an ad tip - try making ads that look broken to at least catch the viewers eye) Anyway, from this thread it sounds like others here are familiar with this. How can I go back to normal, and how did this happen to me? I did install AVG a couple weeks ago, and I saw someone mention AVG. I suspected AVG may have been the problem, and uninstalled AVG, but the problem persists. Another problem that occurred at the same time is that the mmrpg game "Clan Lord" by Delta Tao no longer works (clanlord-dot-com if anyone's curious). it uses port 5010 as far as I know. I have played this game since 1998 (one of the first mmrpg games ever), and am definitely going through withdrawals. Maybe it's good for me. But I'd still like to know why it lost part of it's connectivity. I can log in, but then no data transmits, if I try to do anything further it freezes and I have to force-quit. Any helpful advice would be appreciated, even if it's "you don't need those ads and there's more to life than games" LOL Thanks! |

Sorry Jimmy, you have come to the wrong place.
You haven't provided us any information to even give us the slightest clue as to why you have ads being blocked in your system. You could have any number of browser add ons, 3rd party clients, or even network security solutions on your network doing this. These forums are for support of the Untangle UTM Software. Which it doesn't seem like you have installed. So there isn't much help we can be. P.S. There are a world of benefits for removing advertising outright. As you said they are invisible, and useless. And when you start calculating the bandwidth saved on a 100 user network over a year long period... yeah...

I have seen the untangle logo sometimes, when an entire site is blocked and I see the untangle logo. Has happened maybe twice since working here. I think it's on the server (?) I don't think I have anything related to untangle installed on my laptop. If I did, how could I tell? Would it be in "programs" or perhaps in the task manager processes list?
Also, you think there are multiple programs that say "This site was blocked because it contains ad content"? Googling it only found that phrase once, so I almost think that message is not even related to a product, but is what a system admin somewhere specified as the message to say. |

Well if you have an untangle where you work a quick test will reveal it.
www.playboy.com If they are blocking porn... it will show. And, if you have a network defended by Untangle... well you're stuck with it. There are ways to bypass the filters obviously, but it isn't exactly in our best interest to point those out. ![]()

If you do indeed have an Untangle device installed simply point him at this thread. I can't see how following directions to confirm the presence of an Untangle appliance is anything to cause disciplinary action.
