Default Bandwidth usage

I am considering an Untangle server for web filtering and ad blocking. My current network configuration sends all browsing activity through a VPN and a service provider provides anti virus and content filtering. We are billed for bandwidth. Would the ad blocker help reduce the amount of data downloaded or would it be downloaded and then blocked at the Untangle device?

Default

It blocks the request, so the ad is never downloaded.

Note, that while this does save bandwidth it will also cause some sites to occasionally not work correctly as some sites are coded in such a way that the blocked content is required.
So you may have to add stuff to the passlist from time to time.

welcome to the forums!
