I think you'll need to be more specific with your questions...

Hope you can help me with this.

I'm a teacher teaching 13 - 16 year old students. In my use of wikipedia.org for research, I realized that students can access certain topics on wikipedia which is inappropriate for there age. I tried to block certain topic by adding (for example) wikipedia.org/wiki/nipple in the Web Filter URL tab. But it didn't block it.

Please someone help me with this.

Welcome to the forums. I entered the text exactly as you specified it, and it blocked it. If you had went to the page and it was still in your browser's cache, you would be loading it from your cache instead. Also, if you were on a "forbidden" web site and entered that site into your web filter, you would still be able to access it as long as that session was active.

Try clearing your cache and clearing your browser history, then try to access it again. It should block it.

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried it. It does block it if you type it directly at the Navigation bar of any browser. But if you go to Wikipedia's main page and use the search tool or content list, it didn't block it.

You can't possibly expect to be able to block all references on Wikipedia that may be deemed inappropriate for their age. As soon as you block one they will find something else. I don't mean to be rude but there are a hell of a lot more 'inappropriate' pages on Wikipedia to worry about than nipple.

Possibly you could seek a pay rise for having to monitor every single page your students go to on wikipedia and manually blocking every single one. Wouldn't a smarter idea be to inform the students that everything they are doing will be logged and truffle through the web logs for passed traffic when you get the chance, taking appropriate action when it is needed?

What if they go to another online encyclopedia and look up the information there? Or perhaps even in book? Do they have encylopedias in books anymore?

Probably some anti-evolution, bible thumper teacher that wants to eliminate any 'impure thoughts'. The perfect formula to develop adult psychotic behavior. Gotta love those people that want to stamp out 'unnecessary knowledge'. How they ever sneak their way into the school system is beyond me, but one more reason that tenure needs to be go the way of the dinosaur.

You have to wonder what on earth they did in the days without computers and their inability to install an untangle server between the desks and the bookshelves.

Bought rulers and practiced on knuckles, most likely.

Probably a good thing too.

Thanks for the Idea. To tell you the truth, I don't like the idea to block the topics in the said site. The site is for learning, the only problem though that I'm currently employed in a Roman Catholic school with lots of Bible fanatic people which are also my boss. Well you know how sensitive they are in this matter. Anyway thanks again.:)

I case your wondering folks, its was a suggestion of the K-12 Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of this school. Since I'm responsible for the IT department, its on my shoulders. Any help would be appreciated

The only thing I would really sugest would be in a future release of the Untalgle server make another catagory called Mature learning, and add items to that catagory over time, and it will take a long time as the current libary of blocked site catagories have taken.

that way for someone that really was doing research on this somewhere, then unless the place choose to block the mature learning then insteaed of having it included with porn would make future learning easier for everyone.
