View Full Version : Quarantine doesn't release emails

I have discovered this recently. Don't know why this happens. Below is my configuration:

Untangle in router mode
Redirected port 25 to mail server on my network
Untangle Email settings configured to use my ISP's smtp forwarder

Observations:
I receive all passed emails
I receive test email from Untangle
I receive reports and quarantine digest
If I choose to release from quarantine digest web browser page, I receive a confirmation that message released. However, it doesn't get released - if I close this page and open again, the message appears there again.
If I choose to release from client by going to Email->Quarantine, the message count goes down (1 to 0 etc.). But if I close the email config, and open again, the message that I released shows up there. The count again goes back up to where it was before releasing.
Mail server doesn't receive the released email.
I can purge the messages all right. No problems there.
I saw a thread on this forum about this issue, but it doesn't seem to be resolved. Has anyone seen this behaviour? What could be the reason?

Thanks in advance.

hmmm..... Well sounds like you might have tarpit enabled. I would suggest turning that off. Also you might want to make sure that you have the correct hostname configured on the Untangle guy under networking and that hostname resolves publicly if you have a public hostname for it to resolve with....
Hope that helps....

Check /var/log/exim4/mainlog and see if it holds any clues as to what may be happening.

I just noticed something similar. When a user clicked on Release, the email was never sent to their Inbox. The Spam Event Log shows the released email was being quarantined again (the only difference being that the sender now was untangle@mydomain.com). I added the untangle@mydomain.com address into the Global White List (or Safe List) and the email releasing now works.

I don't know if this will fix your problem but it's worth giving it a try!!

Yeah, that makes sense to add the address... I am pretty sure it's not supposed to do that.... I think I want to look into this one a little bit more..

FWIW

My thought on this is that if the untangle is set to send the email directly (ie the email tab doesnt have the exchange details) then the email goes back out to the weba nd comes back in again
At which point it gets picked up as spam again and the cycle continues

However,
Thats not much help coz I've changed the email settings to use the exchange server and the emails now just disappear!
