5.0 (nicknamed Mustang) has been released!

You can download the ISO here (http://staging-www.untangle.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=251&Itemid=1027):

Just a few notes:

* You can not upgrade your current 4.2 box to 5.0 - this is not yet supported and we will provide an upgrade path to a later version in the 5.0 tree. (like 5.0.3 or 5.0.4)
* This is a beta - be aware there are known bugs filed against 5.0 (here (http://bugzilla.untangle.com/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&target_milestone=5.0.1+%28Mustang.1%29&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&emailassigned_to1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=))
* The changelog (http://wiki-beta.untangle.com/index.php/Changes_Between_4.2_and_5.0) is located here:

A couple known bugs to lookout for:
* After downloading the professional package, a reboot will be required before the Remote Access Portal works
* Installing the Web Filter will cause some slowness for a few minutes while the updates are downloaded dynamically

If you download and install it - please let us know how it goes!
:D

You call those bugs? No way. Those are just minor inconveniences. :D

Does this release support PPTP passthrough?

I cant seem to get it to download. Every time I attempt to DL it the request times out. Is there a huge load on the servers right now?

try going here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/untangle

then clicking on download and trying a different mirror... sometimes some of the sourceforge mirrors are slow.

This is just way too awesome. How come nobody I have ever spoken to has ever mentioned it? I'll try and come up with some constructive negative comments, but really so far from three days worth of playing the only bad thing I've seen is six or seven ssh keys of your own, which is probably not what a paranoid person really wants on their machine.

Thanks!! I can't believe so much of it is free. We'll go the pro route rather and be happy to pay.

hmmm... do you have remote support enabled in config->support, or was it enabled at a previous time?
those ssh keys aren't supposed to be there until that is enabled - if they are i will file a bug.

Aaah, I see. It is enabled because that was the only way I saw that would get it to enable SSH. Impressive, in that case I have no complaints, and even the above was not really a complaint, more of an observation.

When conducting several port scans on Untangle 5.0 the first 200 or so ports
appear to be open even though default action is to drop unsolicited packets.
Also when creating a rule to block all incoming traffic including pings, this
seems to do nothing and ports still show as open during port scans.

Another thought is also to have an option to detect port scans and drop them.

I also posted this on bugzilla as well.

yeah, thats the attack blocker detecting the scan and starting to reject and use syn cookies (which makes the ports appear open)

where did you post it in bugzilla? i'll expand on it a bit.

It's under latest new bugs. The ID # is 3026. I posted it on bugzilla.untangle.com

I also wanted to clarify that I was conducting the port scan from the out side in. (I was scanning the public interface of the untangle utm from another IP)

What's the likelihood that configuration backups from the beta will properly restore to the gold code for 5 or 5.1?

The 5.0 backups will work on 5.0.1.
When 5.0 goes gold (probably 5.0.1) you can simply upgrade your box, theres no need to reinstall :)

The 4.2 backups will NOT work on 5.0 (there is simply too much that has changed), but the good news in that 5.0 backups up the configuration locally everyday.

Aaack!

Changelog.

Um . . . will Active Directory work with a non-costed license for under 11 machines, still? Or is A/D interop now priced for any number of seats?

Think non-profit here, folks. Help!

Its no longer free for new installs, but for prior-to-june-26th under 10 installs they are grandfathered and free.

No worries rasqual - we got your back. :)

Including prior installations which:

- didn't yet toggle A/D

or

- are replaced with a beta 5.0 this week?

I'm just Mr. Anxious this week.

;-)

Yes, including those.

If you want to upgrade to 5.0 now, you won't automagically be grandfathered on the upgrade, but we can do so manually :)

(if, of course, you give us your first born child :D)

I want to move my 4.2 box to protect my server (at the colo) but I don't need AD access there. The new box I am setting up 5.0 on (at home replacing the 4.2 box) needs AD access. Is there anyway I can be accomodated?

Why don't I set up the new box at the colo?

1. Space. Old box is 1U. New box is 4U.
2. Don't want to run beta code against my production servers (there are 2).

Hey admin123,

You may find some help on the Developer section of the wiki.
Let us know if you give it a try! :)

the source is available from download on the developer section of the website.

Please let me know, if untangle could be run on any other linux platforms except the existing one, thank you.

admin123: not currently, but we're planning on it!

(theoretically you could compile from source and do it yourself, but its not as easy as we would like it to be - yet)
