View Full Version : Bug Reports and Enhancement Requests
If you find bugs with Untangle products, or have an idea on how they can be made better, you are more than welcome to file Bug Reports and/or Enhancement Requests at:
http://bugzilla.untangle.com
Both are welcome at any time, BUT before submitting either, please do two things which will make it easier for everyone.
Do a search on Bugzilla to make sure that nobody has submitted the bug/enhancement request already.
When submitting, please provide detailed and accurate information.
For enhancements, what is the intended purpose and what will it achieve.
For bugs, tell us exactly how to reproduce the bug (or do the best you can).
Your support is greatly appreciated, and your input is very valuable in helping us give you the best products possible.

I tried to install version 5.1 on a Dell PowerEdge 1550 with a MegaRAID Perc 3/DC controller. My system already had version 5.03 installed, but that version wouldn't boot due to non supported RAID issues. The install appeared to be running fine during the initial file copy, then it flipped to the X Windows GUI for a split second, then went to the WAIT screen and locked up. When I manually rebooted I was back to version 5.03 and the famous reboot problem. I can say that during the file copy process the LED on the CDROM drive was flashing, and the LED case light was flashing showing hard drive activity, but the LED's in the hard drive bays were not. It's like the system was showing hard drive activity, but the hard drives were not responding.
bstilts,
If you put Linux on it once, you need to kill the partition before Untangle can install. Also, you should probably make a post directly related to your problem as it will fall through the cracks if attached to unrelated topics.

First of all, i want to say big thanks to Untangle developers! You've made an excellent piece of software. Keep going on!
Now, here are some feature requests the realization of which could not only be useful for myself :) but also raise the Untangle popularity.
First of all, it could be HELL useful for everyone if there will be a port of Mozilla's Adblock Plus into Untangle. The current "ad blocker" just doesn't work at all, and Adblock Plus has always been doing its job great. There should be a port of Adblock's code into Untangle environment which will allow Untangle administrators to subscribe onto Adblock's lists like they could do in Mozilla.
By the way, this thing could make Untangle the leader in gateway AD filtering. Now there is no such a solution in spite of its evidence.
Second, the AV scanner should inspect also multi-threaded downloads, because of great popularity of download managers. It is not very easy to implement such a thing, but it leads to tighten security and the leadership in gateway AV scanning.
As i remember, the only solution which can do such a thing is Kaspersky AV for ISA server, which is far more expensive than Untangle and so doesn't compete with it.
Third, it will be very good if there will be an ISS Orange Filter plugin for content filtering. Of course, it could not be free of charge, but it REALLY worth its functionality. The current content filtering plugin can't be equally efficient just by design.
As far as i know, the only gateway which has such a plugin is Kerio WinRoute Firewall which is one of your main rivals.
Forth, a small functionality enlargement request. Please, tweak the FTP protocol inspector (or what you call it) to enable FTP server publishing without strict port definitions in PASV mode, just like Kerio done it in their KWF! All you need is spying for FTP commands and auto-opening of proper ports, so it will not lead into major code changes, but this function will just be great.
Fifth, how about implementing PPTP/L2TP VPN in addition to SSL-VPN? It could also be very useful. Of course, such a feature should be included only in Professional package.
Now i'm using Untangle to protect near 30 PCs and two servers. There are plans of buying the Professional package because we need an AD integration, and this is okay.
But there are some networks which i'm administering where Kerio WinRoute is used - because of its features like ISS Orange Filter and VPN. I really like Untangle, so i'd be glad in replacing WinRoute by it. Could it ever became true?.. Well... i'm not a coder, so i just have written the above, and now it's up to you, the Untangle Creators.
post scriptum. I am sorry for my not very good english...
post post scriptum. It seems i should have been written this post into bugzilla... sorry. I'm a bit tired today and haven't read the first post carefully. I'll delete this post if it is necessary.

When I was in Iraq I used Nedi, to monitor the network on the Army Base in Tikrit! I had around 435 cisco switch, 30 cisco bridges, 15 cisco Routers and 260 Motorola canopy wireless shots with 3 repeater towers. I used NeDi to map my network and monitor all my traffic and Vlans. It worked great, I know that some of you use NTop and there are several others but Nedi is in a league all its own. You might be able to just installed it directly but, it needs PHP an msql server to be installed. Would be a great additon.

I have submitted an enhancement at bugzilla here:
http://bugzilla.untangle.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4655
Basically, it is a way to allow Untangle to work in-line on the network and process traffic and log/report on it but it doesn't actually block the traffic. This would allow you to place the device on the network with minimal interruption (save throughput for the normal processing of traffic so it can be logged/reported on). A great way to show a customer how the product protects their network as well as a means of performing a security audit on the everyday traffic patterns of the network and its users.

I'd suggest NoScript as a standard included in the FF, rather than AdBlock.
Also, tighter default options, like not remembering passwords, cookies, etc
Possibly a feature to install/set up as a non-transparent gateway, & disable the "Re-Routing" feature.
Option/default for HTTPS admin only to be accessible from "internal" LAN

Could we get system time in a 24 hour format? that'd be cool.

A search on Google for "untangle bugs" brings up a result that is for a launchpad repository. Is this associated with untangle or something someone else just created before untangle did?
Anyway, the fact that it was empty inspired me to look elsewhere :)

Launchpad was really never used.... bugzilla.untangle.com is the official repository.
