The boss loves his Call of Duty 4 and since we've started using Untangle he is complaining that the server browser doesn't work. If I bypass the Untangle box it works great so it's the Untangle set up and not some other random issue. Anyone got any ideas?

Update: The traffic is on UDP 28960. Other than the large number of packets being sent I cant find a good reason this isn't working.
I'll tell you in two words...Attack Blocker. Do a search for "DARGON" or "Attack Blocker" and you'll read about it manifesting in many ways. Its defending you against you.

I would wait til 5.1 or follow mdh's advice.

I have a worse problem with CoD4, I have the attack blocker disabled so I can get all the servers however when polling 13k in servers the server grinds and my internet connection gets really really crappy (eg: ping google.ca before polling, about 70-80ms, beginning of polling 120-150ms near the end and about 2 minutes after polling 250-350ms). I had a problem were the server would crash the connection entirely then I put in another 512 meg o ram and that made it so it won't crash the connection but just make it slow. Do I need a machine with 2g of ram to be able to poll the servers properly without crashing or will 5.1 hopefully be able to fix a couple of these issues?
Thanks.

Can you paste the output of this here?
look UVM_ARGS /etc/default/untangle-vm

That is correct. You have to edit an untangle file (search the forums or google and you'll find how to do it). Then restart untangle-vm, that totally disables the attack blocker

Here ya go:
~ # look UVM_ARGS /etc/default/untangle-vm [root @ untangle]
UVM_ARGS="-Dargon.shield.enabled=false"
UVM_ARGS="${UVM_ARGS} -Dargon.internal=${UVM_INTERNAL_INTF} -Dargon.external=${UVM_EXTERNAL_INTF}"
UVM_ARGS="${UVM_ARGS} -Dcom.untangle.uvm.memmonitor.enabled=true"
UVM_ARGS="${UVM_ARGS} -Dje.maxMemory=${MAX_UCB_DB_MEG}"
UVM_ARGS="${UVM_ARGS} -Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=30 -Dsun.net.inetaddr.ttl=30 -Dnetworkaddress.cache.negative.ttl=10"

It's possible that the scanning by the UT modules of all of the COD4 traffic is causing the problem. You might try creating "no rack" policies for your COD4 traffic to bypass the scanning.

I'm assuming it would just be that specific port that I wouldn't scan, correct?
Other then a no rack policy, what other way would this get fixed? What could be causing this, I don't think that's too much traffic but this box is a p1.7Ghz with a gig of ram, would 2 or 3 gig clean that right up or dual CPUs?

I want to apologize in bringing this subject back up, but I'm having a weird issue in UT 5.2 that I'm trying to figure out.
I recently installed COD4 and having unexpected issues with the Game Browser, similar to what folks have mentioned in this thread before. However, I do not have "Attack Blocker" installed in this instance of UT 5.2. The master list of COD4 servers is a little over 14,000. When the "pings" start flying, it probably updates about 100 of them before it "dies" off only giving me a partial list of available servers.
Curious, I brought up the "rack" and watched as I kept refreshing. I didn't see anything that was blocking the pings, nor is Attack Blocker installed (i.e. it was never installed in the first place).
I ended up putting the COD4 client machine's IP address in the "Bypass Rules" and that fixed it. The COD4 browser worked perfectly.
Now I'm trying to figure out what part of UT 5.2 isn't liking the COD4 game browser. Anyone have any ideas or any ideas of how I can track it down? I'd very much like to put the machine back in without Bypassing the JVM. Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Kermee
