Hi. I am just testing out Untangle for the first time. Seems like a great product. Super easy to install!

I am testing version 5.0. I have just installed it about 1 hour ago.

The web filter does not block all the sites listed at urlblacklist.com. There are a number of sites that seem to get through the web filter.

Other posts say the list will get updated every 1 - 6 hours but is there a way that I can force an update? or is there a way I can manually move the updated list over?

Thanks

From our own internal testing, the urlblacklist.com miscategorizes many sites. So we are using some of the urlblacklist.com and our own custom untangle labs lists for the URL blocking.

From our own internal testing, the urlblacklist.com miscategorizes many sites. So we are using some of the urlblacklist.com and our own custom untangle labs lists for the URL blocking.

From our little bit of testing it seems to miss over 50% of the sites. Our simple test was searching for boobs (go ahead and giggle). Many sites that URLblacklist.com has categorized as adult still get through. This seems to happen in most categories.

Any ideas or is this as good as the content filter gets?

Thanks

Are you running 5.0 or 4.2?

if 5.0, can you give us an example site?

I also had a filtering problem today on 4.2

My BOSS wanted to go to this golf site he frequents. It's on angelfire.com. SO... I put anglefire.com in the pass list and tried again... no luck. SO... I put his IP in the pass list... also no luck. I had to shut off the web filter for it to work.

Also, the site was being categorized as ecommerce, but I didn't see an ecommerce category in the web filter control panel.

Web Content filter is recognizing www.myspace.com as part of PROXY category. Since I block all proxies, its wrongfully blocking MySpace.com

URLblacklist.com is categorizing myspace.com with proxy and social networking, etc. If you want to pass myspace.com, you can add that to the pass list.

bossman351, what is the exact URL to the site? I can test that for you.

Sorry for the delay.

This was being marked as an ecommerce site or something. I had trouble passing it, so I bypassed the entire router. :(

We tested the site you specified on version 5.0.1. It also came up as a blocked site under the "ecommerce" category. That is a bug, we are fixing currently. to match the naming convention of the "shopping" category.
Also we went to the pass list and added angelfire.com to the list and it was allowed through regardless of the "shopping" category being blocked and logged.
Hope this helps
