Hey Gang - I'm getting myself familiar with the Remote Access Portal, specifically, the bookmarking and VNC aspects of the portal.
I am attempting to access desktops on my network from the outside via VNC, and for some reason, when RAP tries to make the connection, nothing happens. To help you help me ;) here is a laundry list of what I've done up to this point:
Loaded VNC server on the workstation, listening on port 5900
Set up a bookmark on the RAP that references VNC. It's named and the target that I am using is the IP of the workstation I am trying to access (eg: Target = 192.168.0.106:5900)
Opened port range 5800-5900 on the firewall to forward to .106
When I attempt the connection, I am prompted for the password, but then nothing happens. I've looked at the wiki and looked through these forums, but no one makes reference to the issue that I am having, which leads me to believe that the answer is in front of my face but I'm just not seeing it.
Any words of wisdom? Many thanks in advance..
Tell us (word for word) the port forwarding rules, and look to see if you have any Windows firewall interference on desktops.

Thanks for the reply. Here are the settings as they now stand:
Enable Rule: checked
Action: Pass
Log: checked
Traffic Type: TCP and UDP
Client Interface: any
Server Interface: any
Source Address: any
Destination Address: 192.168.0.106
Source Port: 5800-5900
Destination Port: 5800-5900
Category: VNC (I entered this in)
Description: just entered descriptive text
I know there is fine-tuning to do with the above config when I go live with this feature, but for now, I just want to get one system to be able to accept a VNC call.
Thanks again..

Are you using tight or real VNC?
I bookmark example is 192.168.0.106:0 realVNC

RealVNC on the workstation, Untangle is using TightVNC. It's worth trying to match the two I guess..

I didn't think you had to create port forwards when using the Remote Access Portal... I didn't!

I wouldn't think this either.. I mean that is the point of VPN.. you're on the same network so your access is using internal addressing.

I didn't think I needed to forward ports either, but I did so in an attempt to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I am having the same problem. Is there a special setting that we need to change on Untangle to get VNC to work?

I got mine to work just now by adding port 5900 to the exceptions list on the target Windows XP machine.

Hi Callused
in some cases u need MASQUERADING enable in ur Kernel / Router.... also "SNAT" AND "DNAT", by the way.... SNAT and DNAT combined is called FullNAT (in Routers Setup defined as Fowarding... Trigger Ports and so on) Forwarding to and from is in need to have a well working VNC Connection..... well.. each new "pid" needs it ;)
At ur Client you need to allow VNC or the Ports 5800-5901
For a more detailed solution like a few lines of Iptale Script Code...u need to tell me a little more abt the OS ur using.... Remember.. i am talking abt Linux and Unix here.....

5800 is for the webbrowser java. If you are using VNC/UltraVNC/TightVNC/VineServer YOu only need port 5900. I always make the exception from 5900-5903.
You also have to allow it on the firewall of the computer you are talking too.
