Hi,

How can I create a duplicate copy of an already made rack, I mean same configuration and other settings.

As it stands now, you have to do it the hard way. I filed an enhancement request months ago to "clone a rack" because of the value it would add for people who use Policy Manager. It hasn't happened, though I must admit I don't know the difficulty in doing it from a programming perspective. I'd like to see it!

Hi MDH,

Thanks for the reply, as you said I think we have only to do this in the hard way. Also I think it worth to be submitted as new feature.

I will poke around tomorrow and find the enhancement request (workload willing) and post the number here. Sometimes, getting votes for a enhancement moves it higher on the list. There are our needs, and there are your wants. Sometimes they can't exist together, but many times they can, so it becomes a question of prioritizing and establishing exactly what it will take to get the job done.

Hi Hamid

Can I ask what user scenario would you be addressing if you duplicated a rack, policy and content? I am trying to understand the purpose of a duplicate rack from how the custom policy/custom rack feature works.... (So I can understand what might be missing too :)

Hi,

I have a request from one user to have access to the Yahoo IM only, I only need this guy to have access to Yahoo IM, but all the other policies should be applied to him. Like I don't want to use MSN IM or Skype or any freedom of web filter access.

I think...thinkg..think then I said I am going to make one rack (copy of current rack will save my time) for him and assign him and IP address, then in user I will let his IP to be there so that this policy only applies to him!

I need a copy of current rack so that I don't need to build an other rack with same setting and configuration in the all application and modules.

Please comment for any correction or better solution.

H!

Hamid,

I spoke with ronnikat about this on Friday, and your purpose is exactly the same as mine. If you have went through the process of setting up a configuration for all of your users and then fine-tuned it, being able to clone that to save the setup time for a second rack would be a great time-saver. What you have written here is a perfect example!

Thanks and let's see if we could find a way.

As a potential corporate user of Untangle (we're evaluating it now) this would be a killer feature, as otherwise each rack I have to configure on my UT 5.3 server is going to take a L:eek:T of time. I have to do 5 separate configs, one for each major department, with the main difference for each being web filtering lists and options.

In my scenario, almost everything else would be the same in the cloned racks, but we've customized the default rack quite a bit, due to our very restrictive security policy, and I don;t want to add in all the applications and have to re-customize them, not to mention the burden of making sure they all have identical settings, with the exception of the web filtering, and in 1 other case, the phishing/spam filtering.

I just tracked it down (finally) in http://bugzilla.untangle.com. It is bug #3285. Vote for it and make it happen!

:( Sorry need to leave my vote on Multi-WAN... This is a great idea and would be very nice to have but at this point I can pull off this functionality with some work on my end. I can't do multi-wan without hacking in another piece of equipment.

Yup, I agree. Maybe a checkbox option in the settings page of each application saying "Inherit Settings From:" "Rack Name" (pull-down menu).
