Hello,

I'm looking into purchasing the Policy Manager module, but I want to block my users by id and I don't have Active Directory on my network.

Is it possible to install a different product, maybe an open source directory, to get the same functionality ?

Thanks,

Luis

Not without digging seriously into the Untangle code.

Go to CONFIG->USER DIRECTORY. Fill in names and login IDs. You can then select users in the Policy Manager from that list. Check section 9 in the following link:

err, but that won't actually do anything.

i didn't even know you could do that - thats a bug!

I guess sometimes I bring out the best in us. Actually, I haven't tried it...just found the wiki link.

Thank you all for your reply.

I tried the suggestion by mdh, but it won't let me try the user id assignment just with Policy Manager installed, I think it requires Active Directory connector to work, since I'm not really interested on that and due to the comment by dmorris, I just tried it blocking the DHCP addresses range, and worked perfectly.

It should be enough for a while, at least until my target users find out they can assign an static ip address to their machine to circunvent the policy.

This is something I really need, so I will try that way.

As an aside, I would like to mention the library download option works from the server console (firefox), but when trying to purchase from a remote console launched from IE v. 7.0.6001.18000 on Windows Vista Ultimate, it sends the error "A problem occurred while trying to access the Library. Please contact Untangle Support."

I have Untangle 5.3 installed.

Best regards,

Luis

Try from firefox, or with IE via http instead.

Use https instead of http.

Actually I considered that a feature, as long as the login names are unique, I wanted to be able to support a login script for any system mac, linux, windows without AD. :)
