This is the PM I received from buggs1a that was titled "Sorry"
why are you such a fucking prick? man yer a jerk.

Buggs1a, I'm not going to get into a PM name calling match with you but I am NOW going to be a jerk. In light of Comcast capping internet usage at 250GB, I decided that I would go ahead and write the script that I suggested you research, learn and write yourself... as i thought others might find it useful.

What it does is this: Every hour it checks the amount of bandwidth you have used for the month. It then compares the amount used with the amount you defined and if it reaches 85% usage, then it first emails the address that you define to notify you, then divides your bandwidth in half while using the built-in QoS in Untangle and limits your bandwidth. If you reach 95%, then it emails you again notifying you of the usage and limits bandwidth to a quarter of what you defined. If it reaches 100%, then it inserts an iptables rule blocking outbound internet access to keep you from going over your limit.

While I am just testing the script and working on the interface, I get this PM from you at the top of this post.

Since I have received this, I have decided that I am not going to release this as a free download. Instead, I am going to charge for it. I am still trying to determine the price and method of delivery.

Now, go run tell that!! :D:D

I am not on Comcast and my ISP as of this moment does not limit the amount of data I use.

Hey SB,

Although I found it hilarious, I edited the poll - hope you don't mind.

I have received similar (actually much worse) PMs from buggs on several occasions. Several times I have been lured into non-productive conversations that I feel have ultimately led nowhere.

One of the great things about these forums is that they are so friendly and welcoming. In other communities often you have the pro's yelling at newbs to "search the forum" or "RTFM", but here you guys have really set an excellent tone that I think is a huge plus for community members here and ultimately will help us grow. If anything, you've been one of the most patient ones here. :lol
Lets keep it that way and stay clear of personal jabs.
(Unless, of course, they are at mdh :lol :D )

At some point I suppose we'll have to come up with rules about whats okay and whats not, but I'm hoping we can keep it cool and self policing for now.

buggs, if you're reading this - please also cool it. As you've explained we understand you have anger issues, but you must find a way to be a positive contributor on this board. I'd like nothing more than for you to become a positive contributor, but if you ultimately deter people from coming here and insult/attack people we'll have to find a solution.

I wouldn't worry about it so much. Bandwidth caps...really should have no relevance when it comes to business products. It would seem to be Untangle is catering more towards business clients. Business clients should be on business grade connections with their ISP. Business grade connections don't (as a general rule, I'm sure there are a few rare exceptions) get caps or ports blocked.

While keeping track of overall bandwidth consumed may be interesting info to some network admins, having triggers that warn of encroaching a cap generally would not be of interest...for the business environment.

We only have to be around people like that a few minutes at a time. They have to spend all there time around people like that. Fitting punishment...
