So I was working on an add-on to use Google Maps the same way that Zenoss does. The goal is to be able to visually monitor multiple sites/networks of interest. While testing this in the Alpaca interface, I noticed that google maps is EXTREMELY slow while the Untangle web filter is on. Once I turned the webfilter off, the speed was acceptable. I think I have seen others mention this problem and was curious as to if any work was being done to resolve this behavior.

Edit:
I also wanted to note that while visiting google maps, the java process shoots through the roof.

Silver Bullet, I just posted this on another thread, but I think it's the same problem.

I've been experiencing a similar problem with maps.google.com and just general Internet usage. Surfing maps.google.com is very slow and parts of the map image fail to load. This effects other users as their Internet becomes very slow as well.

I've added maps.google.com to both the pass lists of the web filter and spyware filter. But it seems that the following sites are contacted as well:
mt0.google.com
mt1.google.com
mt2.google.com
mt3.google.com

I've added all of these to the pass list and it seems to have solved the problem. maps.google.com is loading much faster than before.

One question, can we put wild cards in the pass lists? ie. mt*.google.com

I saw that and thanks for the post. However, I think that is a temporary band-aid and that more in depth investigation needs to be done to find out why it's behaving as it does on the mtx.google.com domains.

There is something coming from mtx.google.com domains that is giving the webfilter fits... hence the java process shooting through the roof and slowing all other traffic to a crawl.

I don't think the web filter takes wild cards, but if you enter google.com then it should allow any child domain google.com has. This should hold true for any domain.

Weird. It doesn't seem slow here.

Is anyone from Untangle looking into this issue?

By the way, I identified a few more googles servers to add in the pass list as a workaround:
khm0.google.com Satellite View
khm1.google.com Satellite View
khm2.google.com Satellite View
khm3.google.com Satellite View

cbk0.google.com Street View
cbk1.google.com Street View
cbk2.google.com Street View
cbk3.google.com Street View

Its perfectly fine here as well, and I'm behind two Untangle boxes. What web filter settings do you have? All I'm blocking is proxy (no need) and porn (keep distractions to a minimum). Upstream one is probably blocking porn only. Nothing in pass list at all. All rack modules turned on as well.

I have the following categories blocked:
Pornography
Illegal Drugs
Hacking
Hate and Aggression
Proxy Sites

Also a few other unrelated sites listed on the block list.
