OpenVPN and Vista clients

OpenVPN does work with Vista. You will need full admin access on the Vista.
The native OpenVPN client on the Untangle does not support Vista. You will need to download a Vista client off openvpn's site (http://openvpn.net/download.html).

After you have the Vista OpenVPN client, you will need the VPN config files from the Untangle. When you email the VPN client to the user, be sure to download the config files and not the windows installer. The windows installer will not work with Vista.

Finally, you will need to copy the files from the zipped config files to your OpenVPN directory.

What site are you getting to when you try to download the files? Do you receive the email from the Untangle server and click on the link to the site? If so do you get to the correct page? If not what link is being sent on the page?

Tue Feb 19 14:11:30 2008 RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: untangle: [NO_DATA] The requested name is valid but does not have an IP address.

I cannot get this to work. My config file says it is using my dyndns.org hostname.

That happened to me using a different setup (not with untangle I mean) whereby the dyndns client was behind a router and in a different case where the dyndns client was in a linksys router.

The problem was that the dyndns got updated with the wan-address between the modem and the router which was a 10.0.0.x or a 192.168.x.x address and NOT the external IP address of the modem itself.

I ended up modifiing the dyndns to use the checkip.dyndns.org webpage to scoop up the REAL IP from that. So make sure your dyndns gets updated with your real IP.

This doesn't work at all, SP1 breaks it cold. 32bit or 64 bit is currently broken.

I just ignored the errors, added config files and mine works

vista 32 bit got the same tap 32 error

Just to be clear, are you all using the OpenVPN to connect from or to a Vista machine? I would assume that if connecting from a XP machine to a Vista machine, then using the Vista version of the OpenVPN should not matter. Am I wrong in my assumption? I know myself and Skylight had a dialog about this, and he said that it does not matter whether connecting to or from a Vista machine, the OpenVPN client simply does not work. Any takers.

I'm not having any problems using the Vista openVPN client connection to my Untangle server and the machines it protects. I am using OpenVPN 2.1_rc9.

Using Vista 64bit SP1 with OpenVPN 2.1_rc9 without issue .. OpenVPN ROCKS !
