I am trying to install Untangle onto a laptop PC using PC-Card (pcmcia) network interface card (NIC) and the hardware test fails due to only finding the onboard NIC but not the pcmcia NIC. I have spoke to Untangle tech's who state the the kernel (Knoppix ver 3.7 distro) does not support pcmcia and therefore will not work. An option is to use VM but i would prefer to have less software running than more if at all possible. Another possible solution is to use a USB based NIC such as Linksys model USB100M, USB100TX or USB1000. Has anyone tested any of these USB NIC's or does anyone have another option. Any help greatly appreciated.
Peter

amac,
Thanks for the link. Do you have success using the airlink USB NIC to work with Untangle v5.02.
Thanks again.

Update,
I have purchased 2 USB based NIC's for testing

The SMC 2208USB/ETH which is only USB 1.1 compatible ie-10mb speed and has Linux support for kernel 2.4+ and is found by the Untangle install process.

The 2nd is a D-Link DUB-E100 a true USB 2.0 product that can go 100mb/s but is NOT found by the install process.

I called Airlink101 regarding the ASOHOUSB (recommended here) and the tech said it is a USB 2.0 device but can only go upto 54 Mb/s given the chip set used is the same as on the wifi 802:11g wireless NIC. Airlink101 does not have Linux drivers, fyi.

I will try the Airlink101 and maybe some others.

I know I am going over the edge by using a laptop Panasonic CF-52 for 100 mb pipe to the Internet but I am running Vyatta router software (Debian) on the same laptop and it works fine. It found the onboard NIC and a PCMCIA NIC from 3com.

Any help is greatly appriciated.
Peter
