I recently installed an Untangle device in transparent mode on my network. I am running the web content, virus, spyware, protocol, attack, id theft, intrusion and reports modules on the box.

The box is a P4 2GHZ, 1GB RAM, 120MB HD box, dual 10/100 NICs.

I noticed that if I try and download large files from the web, the downloads time out at about the 1/2 mark of the files. Files have ranged from 10MB to 200MB. I have tried different websites (including Microsoft) and get the same results.

I have a large pipe to the Internet (15mb down, 1.5Mb up) and never had this problem until I put in Untangle. Any ideas what would be causing this hiccup?

Could you check the attack blocker's event log to see if there is limited or dropped sessions.

Checked the attack blocker and there is no activity in the event log for today for any dropped or limited sessions.

Does the same thing happen if you turn off virus blocker?

We had a similar issue and found that the Spyware blocker was blocking the packets but would always allow it to get to a certain point. Try entering the site into the PASS List of both the Web Content Filtering and Spyware Filtering and then see if it works. The way we always test out stuff like this here at our company, is we turn off the appliances, and try the download, if it works then we know something in the appliances is blocking it, like "Attack Black, Spyware, Web Contenet, etc..".. then we try it again only turn on one of the appliances and see if it works or fails. Once it fails, we know which appliance is causing the issue and resolve it. Very nice option about Untangle.. So easy to turn on and off the different scanning features which you can't easily do in other devices and best of all, doesn't have to reboot the router like most other manufacturers.
