PCI Express Nic

I was looking in the forums and hadn't seen anyone talk to this..... so anyone had any results (good or bad) with a PCI Express NIC and Untangle 5.x?

Hi,

This thread was originally started because I needed to know if anybody had any experience with PCI express lan cards.

Unfortunately nobody replied so I had to go ahead, spend some money and try to find out if there is something out there which will work with Untangle.

I have only tested 2 different pci express nic. The first one didn't work:

Intel Pro 1000 PT pci-e 1x

The interesting thing was that Untangle 5.x didn't even recognize this card during the install and Untangle 4.x did. Unfortunately, the card was shown as unknown after the system was installed.

So I had to look around what else is available and ordered another nic:

BroadCom NeXtreme Gigabit PCI-E adapter

This time Untangle 4.x for some reason found 3 lan adapters in my server, Untangle 5.x only 2. I have gone ahead and installed version 5.

Now the good thing. The BroadCom card worked!

The rest of the hw I as using is here:

MB LV-677
1GB RAM
1x integrated NIC (GB)
80GB HDD
Celeron 1.8 GHz

I hope my experience will help somebody else.

Anyone got any updates for this? Keen to get a PCI Express m/b and nics. Other than the BroadCom card above, any others that work?
