Default Log Out Window missing now

    Hello Everyone,

This is my first post on this forum so I am hoping I will be able to get some help here...

I use Untangle environment at home because my wife has a business and it involves her business to access internet all the time + we have 3 kids and they use internet a lot... This is why I decided to implement Untangle at home to have more secure environment etc...

Well, I have untangle 64 bits with Standard package purchased... My Server appears to have the the latest Untangle version because it is set to update automatically if there are any updates from Untangle support site.

I use a lot the Captive Portal to force all users to login to be able to use internet, I have also the default time out set to 360 min.

Here it is my problem --> I used to have "Log out" popup window right after when all users login from Linux, Mac and Windows environment, They use most of the time Firefox and IE browser, sometimes Safari.

I don't know what happen but I used to have the log out option before! I think when the server took a new update... the log out option is not available anymore? I know haven't change anything on the server either.

Does any one know how to have this feature back? I would love to have this feature back because when anyone of us done a surfing on internet basically close the browser and logout from the popup windows too from the computer it was used... it worked for us this way!

    I would appreciate your help

    Thank you

Oh No. I am disappointed to hear this. I really like this feature. I miss it!

I think it would much be better to leave this feature to us to decide whether we want to enable or to disable this "log out" option, rather then taking away from us because every business may have different environments and requirements...

I really appreciate for your quick respond!
    Thank you

The biggest problem with this "feature" is that it didn't redirect after logging in because of the logout popup.

hlarsen, correct me if I'm wrong, but we can just visit a logout url correct?

Unfortunately, this feature caused so many issues and complaints it had to be removed.

It was meant for debugging and testing not for actual use.
Now testing can be achieved with the logout button in the admin UI.

Well, I am not a programmer but after my server took the new updates and I notice some changes has been made to the Captive Portal because now there is NO option to enable or disable the logout feature but the programmers added a new feature to add any url to force to redirect... so for instant when you add www.google.com in the Captive Portal, it will force to redirect every time to this site after when you login.

what I don't understand is why the logout feature has been removed?

Why the programmers did not leave the logout feature and just added the new feature to force redirect to your specific site you specified in the Captive Portal like I mentioned above?

The logout feature worked for me... in my environment...

Yes, I agree there was problem when users tried to login, the portal did not re-direct before however I believe if there was logout feature available and this new url re-direct feature in the portal, it would force to redirect to the site you specified as default site after you login and when you've done browsing you close your Browser you could logout by clicking on the pop logout window.

But again I am NOT a programmer, these are my thoughts only.

Thank you for all your responds/comments to my post.

We received several calls on the Logout Button Popup hanging with 'Please Wait...' on some browsers configurations. The logout popup was mainly a QA enhancement for testing.

Bugs 8043 & 8224 in the bugzilla http://bugzilla.untangle.com/ document some of the browser issues.

I agree with some of them, unfortunately it leaves a bad impression to have half-working (more like 20% working in this case) features in the product.
We knew we could never make it 100% working or even come close, so ultimately we decided it was better to remove the feature to eliminate all the complaints and confusion it was causing.

As an alternative a user can logout by just visiting this URL:
    http://untangle_ip/users/logout

If you really need this feature, I would redirect to a site after login is complete. "Thank you for logging in." Then have *that* site do a pop-up that has a logout button linked to http://untangle_ip/users/logout (or just provide a logout link).

As always realize this is all voluntary. There is nothing forcing the user to click the logout button and it is in no way automatically clicked (in either the old implementation or the one I'm describing).

Is there a cookie or something saved locally on the computer in cache when the users logs in that we can write a script to delete either every so often, or when a new user logs onto the actual computer? We have lab computers that connect wirelessly, and we've used the curl command to write a script that directs to the logout url. However, the mac computers on wireless don't connect immediately with the wireless, and the script fails before the computer successfully connects.
