Default New Toys on the Way!

For all you NG series appliance owners.

Jim and I have been busy this last while trying to nail down an annoying problem.

WTF do you do when an upgrade or other catastrophe nukes your Untangle install on an NG?

Historically we'd tell you to restore your backup image. There's only one problem with that...

Most people didn't bother to make one!

Now, some of our resellers know that you can pull the CF card and use a USB optical drive to install the device like a normal server.

But what if you don't have an optical drive?

Using an ignored feature built into the Clonezilla based recovery system, we now have the ability to deploy images right off our cloud server.

That's right, no more CDs, just plug one of the network jacks on an NG into a network that has Internet connectivity and image the unit right off the net. No disks, no thumb drives, no extra parts what so ever.

Just plug the thing in, configure the image client according to the instructions, click ok, and watch the "firmware" download.

P.S. Our servers base image will be updated to 9.0.2 next week if it kills me! No more 8.1.1 upgrade shenanigans.

All this coming soon to an NG near you? (Yeah, I'm that tired)

Are cloud backups going to the UT cloud, and what is the cost for the feature/storage?

It isn't a backup, it's a re-installation option. We maintain current Untangle images on a server that can be used to redeploy the Untangle software in the event you need to reinstall.

I've personally gotten spoiled with it because with my internet connection it's faster to pull that image than it is to use a CD to install.

And there is no additional charge to access that system, it's there for all NG owners.
