After reading through the literature it is unclear to me what added benefits the Policy Manager has on top of the AD Connector for my application.
What I would like to do here is assign access based on the AD username. I am not interested in restricting access by time of day (Or day of the week). All of my users are pretty much going to fall into one category, with some management folks needing other individualized access. Could I not just use the AD Connector to do this and build a virtual rack for each other person as necessary? It is unclear to me if I need Policy Manager to accomplish my objective. Thanks! |

Welcome to the forums.
The Policy Manager is what allows you to create virtual racks. The active directory connector is what allows Untangle understand domain user names. You need both, to do what you are asking.

Policy Manager allows you to build more Racks (policies)
AD Connector allows you to connect to AD for Reports, Policies/Racks (if you have them), and Remote Access Portal (if you have it) If you just want AD usernames in reports just the AD Connector is enough. If you want different policies/racks for different users you'll need both. make sense? edit: sky-knight beat me to it!
