    Default Suggestion: mac address clone

Can we please add a mac address clone that is easy to configure? I know you can go into terminal and such and edit the config files but a gui option would be great. As well as I've been told changing network settings may overwrite these changes to the config files.

Swapping out an existing router with a new untangle box is so much easier if we can easily clone the mac.

Thanks to all the programmers who make this a great product!

there's an even easier way. Since cable modems/some dsl/ fiber..etc etc etc memorize the mac all you have to do is power cycle the modem/gateway device after you disconnect the old router and then once the modem comes back online plug in the UT. NO need for a mac clone.

it works for me even with static ips. Unless your provider requires a mac...which i have never seen before. Power cycling the gateway has always cleared the mac out so i can just plug in a new device. Which provider is this?

Our two main isp's here require macs to be registered. One has a web interface that I can change, which is is fine, as long as it works. Last time I did this their server screwed up and we spent 2 hours trying to get their DHCP server to dish out the proper static ip. The other isp caches the mac for 4 hours. I can contact support to flush the cache but this usually takes at least 15 minutes or more.

Being able to set the mac would allow me to swap in an untangle box virtually instantly with very little downtime.

Some ISP's do MAC registration for DHCP reservations and do static that way.

To be honest, that approach is broken for MANY MANY reasons. Demand better service from your ISP.

yeah...i've not seen a provider that uses dhcp for handing out static ips..that's just laziness on their part. I know you can't do it immediately but i would start looking for another provider.

I should point out that I want mac spoofing in Untangle, but I want it per IP alias. DOCSIS 3.0 has... issues if you have more than one IP address attached to a single mac. But, only under certain conditions.

It really sucks for me in that regard, because of course, I AM that condition. On the other hand the idea that I can nuke 2000 COX customers off the internet with the power button on one of my VMs is oddly liberating.

    that's a riot...i'm not sure it's a docsis 3 thing BUT i bet it's CoX's implementation that's the issue unless there's some unknown bug in 3.0
