All of our servers are installed via image. The only time they ever see a CD is if the consumer wants to manually reinstall, or when I do the initial installation to make the gold images.

We have a server online in our datacenter that houses the master images. So all I have to do is boot to the CF card, answer a few questions, and it pulls down the image for that hardware. In my case it was even faster because I maintain the images on another server here in my office.

Pulling an image for that appliance took a whopping 5min. Manual installation takes far longer!

sky-knight, how you deal with Interface names after image on new box?
Leave they as is, since they can not be renamed?
Just curious.

That... is a trade secret.

Suffice to say the image is modified in certain ways to allow the interfaces to work normally.

ahh didnt know clonezilla did that! always thought it only did it via booting from a disk and run it and save the image to a disk or USB

Clonezilla has a PXE server component. I personally haven't used it, but Jim has.
