Angry So pissed right now!

Whatever changes/upgrades etc. that were applied over the past few days has totally destroyed all three my Untangle boxes, cannot even log in.

Time to move to something more stable and reliable.

I find that UT is rather stable and reliable. While I have had SOME issues,.. they have all been manageable.

And while updates sometimes do cause issues - it is hardly cause to lay blame in one direction. As previous suggested, please contact support. I'm sure there is a simple resolution.

Upgrades always nuke a percentage of boxes. Most of the time, they run smooth as silk. But that small percentage that go wrong, they usually go very wrong. And, most of the time they go wrong because something on the box was hacked, or configured improperly.

Furthermore, the units that fail all tend to be the ones that have "Lite" on them. I almost never have an upgrade issue with my supported hardware. Not that I think Untangle is doing anything shady here, it's just that the units with support on them are also MANAGED.

Servers need maintenance, they don't run themselves. That's why I advocate manual upgrades. You can prepare yourself for the risks, push the button with confidence, and if the crap hits the fan you can get things going yourself. UT support is great, but never there after hours when you need them.

Yes, we run about 50 boxes and have had to manually restart 3 after the recent upgrade to 9.1 We had to reinstall 2. Thats a first and for the fact that up until recently we had never given Untangle a dime, I think its a pretty decent trade off. Note that all faulty boxes were working, we just couldn't access the admin interface and the VPN had gone down.

Erm, not sure about the "managed" bit. I don't think UT are logging into your boxen and upgrading them manually or via ssh or something. Unless they really do have too much time on their hands!

Clarification on what I mean by "managed". Boxes with support on them usually have humans looking at the network on a consistent basis. I don't mean to say Untangle is doing stuff magically there, it's just the stabilizing effect of having a human taking a look at things on scheduled intervals.

I have 2 Lite boxes and both of them are broken after the update. I can SSH to them, but that's it. It looks like I'll be doing a couple re-installs.

Curious... is there a way to backup any config files via SSH that I can restore settings from after re-installing? My backups aren't as current as I wish they were.

This is a good example of a non managed situation.
Before any upgrade ever make a backup and take the well-documented work of its installation
There is some threads talking about the files involved in the backup procedure, but the problem is that with the change of release/version/build theses files are useless

Wow, you manage more than one box, yet you leave automatic updates on and don't keep yourself up on when up updates are coming? Time to get a job with fewer responsibilities... or at least turn off automatic updates so you're not caught off-guard in the future.
