Hello,
I created a FTP server on one of the servers at work, and im stumped. ![]() Im using filezilla (server) I make an account in filezilla with a password. It works fine internally, but when I get home and test it, i get, Critical Error, Could not connect to server. The FTP rule in the firewall is turned off, to block port 21. It does notice and accept the account I just created, but wont let me further. Any hints? Am I missing something? |

FTP uses separate connections for data transfers.
These are specified with the PASV or PORT commands. You probably need to create a port forward for the data connections, and configure the server to use the port range that your have forwarded for the data connections.

In the filezilla server configuration you will find the port range used for the data transmission. Define this range and define your firewall rules. If you are using SFTP, I believe only one of the modes will work right through untangle, I forget which mode (implicit/explicit).

Wow that was quick!
hlarson, Ive made those 2 rules, but im getting the same error. Heres another question, do I need IIS installed on the FTP server? I was under the impression I didn't need to install it if I was running filezilla. |

you need one Port Forward for port 21 and another port forward for whatever PASV range your FTP server software uses. i'd turn Firewall off just to be safe when testing.
if you can FTP from the LAN then the FTP server works. try to FTP from the outside and if it doesn't work (after making the above rules), post the log from the FTP client software and screenshots from your port forward rules.
