Sorry, forgot to post the results of what I did. I took the easy route and slapped in a couple of 3com 10/100's and did a fresh reinstall. Has been working flawlessly ever since. Of course its in a 1u chassis with the top off now but I will have to invest in a 1u riser and also this:
