    Default Hardware Compatibility Question

Is the Dell PowerEdge 830 compatible with untangle? I would like to use it for testing/training purposes...

I would think the answer would be yes. I have had it working at a client site on a PowerEdge 8xx - can't remember which one. The 830 shows support for both Red Hat and SUSE Linux. Untangle is Debian Linux based.

It may be OK for testing and support of a small number of users on a lower speed connection. If you have dual core model it may work for more users. The older single core systems have to work pretty hard to keep up - e.g. a PE 600SC on a 15Mbs connection.

Be sure you use quality hardware NICs (Intel suggested) which make a major difference in performance. RAID may not be supported depending on the controller you have.

Best way to find out is burn the CD and give it a go! Happy Untangling.
