    Default NIC Card not recognized

I have a Ultra PCI-E Etheret Card Part No.: U12-41388 and I am trying to see if there is a way to install the driver on an Untangle v901 64-bit. Now I have seen this http: // forums. untangle. com/ hardware /123 3-how-ins tall-nic-dr iver.html#post8181 thread and I am wondering if its the same way or has it changed since version 5?

It's the same, but be aware that drivers are kernel specific, and you're setting the unit up to fail on upgrade. If you're willing to take on the task of maintaining the driver, go for it. If you need something to simply work, you need to stick with hardware that works out of the box. Intel cards are the most easily accessible and fill this requirement.

Ok so maintaining it means doing the same terminal processes over and over with each update? Also for V901 64-bit is there a certain Linux Distro that the kernel is based off of? So that I can get a general idea of which cards work because intel cards are expensive and its hard to get my boss to buy them.

Untangle is based on Debian 5.0 (Lenny).

Also, if your boss is worried about money. Take a hard look at the time you're spending. You will spend far more in money on the employee time to make this work, than getting an Intel "based" card from a reputable vendor.

I know Intel branded cards are expensive, but a gigabit Intel Pro1000GT is all of $30. So if you spend more than about 5min of time maintaining that driver, you're loosing money.

There are broadcom, and Realtek options too. The latter can result in some odd network performance issues however.

I bought the Intel ones from Untagle for the two port. I need one more port and I am already using the 1 PCI slot for this motherboard. I have two PCI-E like this one ht tp:/ /biz.tigerdirect .com /applications/SearchTools /item-de tails.asp?Edp No=7047593&CatId= 2380 and one full PCIE slot is there any cheap Intel ones that fit that criteria?

The second card will likely work as well. I just have had inconsistent results with realtek based interfaces. However, if the interface is for low usage, like wireless support etc, you'll likely not notice.

    Default Realtek RTL8169SC Not recognized

I installed the Trendnet below which is on the compatibility list but is not recognized. I tried many of the solutions on here and as I am not new to debian this also included updating my repo and even attempted to compile the driver from source. But that was a no go.

    TEG-PCITXR 10/100/1000 Realtek RTL8169SC

Just thought I would mention that this one may have worked for some but it doesn't seem to be out of the box for others. I will just take this back and try a different NIC possibly the dlink. I have read around that it seems to work.

    Try these:

Can't beat the price and they are guaranteed to work in your Untangle.

So I bought another NIC today and it's the same thing. It doesn't see it. So here is the thing. Maybe I am not understanding this correctly. Do I actually need "2" NICs as opposed to one onboard port and one NIC.

hmmm.. well the pop up does stated it requires two or more network "cards". I guess I am not understanding why we have to get two actual cards and why one of the ports cannot just be the onboard and the second one a NIC.

Either way I think I'm getting how this is supposed to be. Can someone clarify this for me (an Untangle newbie)?

You need two recognized cards. It doesn't matter if they are onboard or not, but Untangle must recognize them.
