Default Intel Quad Core with NVIDIA Nforce 630i MCP/GeForce 7100 chipset?

Ok.. So I've been digging around these forums for a while now to see what others have been using for their implementations. I've had a variety of success while installing Untangle on some older test boxes (Intel celron to P4 boxes) - some good, some bad.

I'm in a position where I'd like to roll this software into a cost-sensitive production environment (is there any other type of production environment, now days?).

I'm seeing if I can find a competitive source for the ASUS barebones boxes but NewEgg doesn't deliever to Canada, right now

Tiger Direct has a pretty good deal going for an Intel Quad Core barebones tower box but I haven't seen anyone with success using this chipset.

Can anyone provide thoughts/insight before I move to "Trial and error"?

    Default Doesn't look like it

Of course, minutes after I posted my question I read another thread that suggests nVidia chipsets don't mix well.

Can anyone provide a different opinion and/or insight?

The 7100 series chipset is the replacement for the 6100. These are meant to be used in Entertainment PC's. I wouldn't suggest trying them with UT. This doesn't mean they wont work but you would have more luck with a standard chipset vs the Media heavy stuff.

I just followed the link you posted and went a few units down to the...

    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...0748&CatId=333

The Abit I-45CV board in that kit sports the Intel 945GC chipset.

While I can't find any linux testing results for that abit board specifically. I have found several successful linux installations on boards with that chipset.

And, this kit is slightly cheaper.

    Default Trial and error

    Thanks for the feedback.

I've ordered this box. Ended up being approx $500 after I added more RAM, HDD, DVDR, etc, with shipping.

I did dig around the web and found this board has been used to isntall Ubuntu without issue.

Our user base will be approximately 100 media hungry students per box with almost all features enabled.

I'll be sure to share our experiences.
