Red face SATA Raid

Does anyone know what RAID cards work with untangle? The cheaper the better. Looking for a RAID 1 solution.

Have you looked at the wiki for the HCL?

The HCL does not list RAID contollers :-(

Looking for a cheaper RAID card, 200 bucks is out of my budget, looking for something about half that price :-(

I'm afraid you aren't getting RAID then. The only thing cheaper than that Adaptec is a softRAID controller. None of these controllers are compatible with any Linux OS. Linux treats softraid controllers as a SATA interface and uses the "RAID" configuration to auto configure LVM, the software RAID component in the linux kernel. UT lacks LVM outright, so you are suck with a true RAID controller, or nothing...

Unless you want to try your hand at an Ubuntu or Debian based install.

Thanks for the update, did the debian based install and got it to software raid but want to get away from the custom software load and run with the ISO load from untangle.

And that is why I spent a week scouring my hardware catalog and came up with the Adaptec... The $200 is steep, but that money is MUCH less than it costs in my time to roll a custom. So the card stays for me.

3ware is also well supported in Linux. And it ain't cheap either. Seems that the cards that actually do this in hardware are all expensive... Hmmm...

Yeah when I did the research to find the Adaptec I recommended I went through the entire Adaptec, 3Ware, and LSI part lists. If someone knows of a cheaper hardware RAID card than the Adaptec I posted... please post the details.

Default Software raid howto

Somebody recommended this to me. I have not tried it yet but it is on my todo list. Supposedly you can convert to sw raid even remotely. Looks like it should work.

http://rootraiddoc.alioth.debian.org/

Is sw raid going to be included in the iso any time soon? I know it is not as good as the real thing but it is better than not.
