Untangle Build 7.0.0 new setup. using Untangle as router. 2 NIC's. Static IP on external and static IP on internal. using default rack.
unable to get untangle to pass external smtp traffic to internal mail server. Problem is with untangle server. If I use different box ( watchguard ) - works fine. Untangle server will ping mail server. went into Config tab, Networking, Port forwarding - used existing 'Forward mail traffic to internal mail..' and configured IP Adr of mail server ( 192.168.100.31). clicked rule on and save. have another rule for RDP traffic that works fine that I configured here also. Thanks. |

Hi,
Is the rule for the RDP to the same host? (192.168.100.31) Dose the mailserver use Untangle as GW? If i where you i would use a more stable rls of Untangle. (7.1.1) Do you use the Firewall module? (in that case is it in default block or pass?)

tecra - Can you provide either a screenshot or detail out your port forward rule to make sure it is correct?
Also what WebFooL stated does your mail server have UT as the default gateway? As well as in the firewall, if you left it as the default (if installed), you dont have to add anything in there, the port forward will work (I assume you are using port 25). |

The default port forward rule is improperly crafted to function with an alias address on external. Alias addresses must be backed up with a NAT policy or else the forwards based on those aliases will take the wrong path to the internet.

Version info: I did a typo. my version of UT is 7.1.1. sorry
The rule for RDP goes to 192.168.100.51 The rule for mail goes to 192.168.100.31 - different box. The mail server has a GW of 192.168.100.2 ( which is the Untangle box) The firewall module is turned on, default is pass. No alias on external port. 1 public ip adr assigned to Untangle box. RDP works fine. email ( port 25) does not. email does work with old watchguard Firebox 1000. left port forward mail rule on UT as original. just changed IP adr to 192.168.100.31 and enabled. the RDP port forward I did create. works well. thanks |

The "little squiggly red line" under the address box in your image is telling you there is a problem with the address - like an extra "." or an invalid value like "256". Kind of like the spell check feature in a word processor.
Glad you got it working. Those kind of errors are always frustating. ![]() |
