    Default Preconfiguration file error

    Hi all !

With eager anticipation I downloaded, burned to CD and grabbed a spare PC to test UNTANGLE.

For some reason, I am getting an error: "The installer failed to process the preconfiguration file .... /simple-cdd/default.preseed"

I tried the expert as well as text based methods, still same result, tho they call different preconf. files, I noticed.
Any pointers from our resident guru's in what is wrong, and how to get around it?

Options I tried, another PC, re-wrote the image to disk, new memory, new CD-drive -- still the same result. PC is Dual Core, 2 gig mem, 180 gig HDD, so I doubt the specs are below entry level for UNTANGLE. Also, am installing this as a CLEAN INSTALL, no prior version of any *nix on the box.

Any help from our Old Wise Men around here?

    Thanks!

Download fron sourceforge.net/untangle, without any download acelerator, check MD5.
Burn the CD at 4x or 8x max.

    Three possible causes:

1.) Bad ISO image. Don't download with any download accelerator or download from sourceforge.
2.) Controller used by CD-ROM isn't supported by the installer.
3.) Controller used by Hard Drive isn't supported by the installer.

    Dear Guru's and Ninja's,
I thank you. Sourceforge worked. Got thrown off the track by another member stating that sourceforge also gave him problems.
Please excuse me .... I have an Untangle to install and test :-)
    Thanks for your speedy assistance!

Lets hope so ! Getting rather annoyed with some other proxy I'm using that every now and again decides to hang. Even its vendors cant help out.
But then again, I'm a windows guy .. feel horribly intimidated by any *nix thing! LOL!

This is one of the main advantages of UT, its an easy web gui to manage the basic functions.

Untangle's interface is simple enough that I have small business owners trained to make their own adjustments.

Heck if Untangle has a failing, it's that they've made it so easy most network guys try it out and the deployment fails because they OVER THINK the installation.

Is it possible to deploy Untangle as a proxy server?

I've got my setup running, but dont want to "re-network" the whole show to test, ie. router into the external interface and the rest of the network into the internal interface.

If possible, some pointers will be appreciated.

I've got a client setup and the gateway and DNS pointed to the Untangle box (internal IP), but its turning a deaf ear on me.

    Thanks guys!

No, Untangle is an inline filter, it cannot operate as a proxy. It must be deployed in the packet flow of the traffic you wish to filter, either in layer 3 (router), or layer 2 (bridge).

Of course Untangle isn't really a bridge, it's a b-router which means while I say layer 2, you must have a fully functional layer 3 on the Untangle bridge or it won't work.
