Question Failed USB install with grub4dos

    Hello there -
We've been using Untangle for a while and we love it!
We have had a little side project going on here.. we're building a custom imaged USB drive with all kinds of software and tools, with hopes of giving one to each tech so they always have what they may need. The issue though, is we can't seem to get UT to install from it.

We're building it with GRUB4DOS, and UT is the only image that won't install. We can get it to boot and begin the installer, but it gets hung up on one step looking for a cd-rom drive. Usually the hardware we have setup for the firewall doesn't have one, and plugging in a USB one to bypass that defeats the purpose of having the installer on a flash drive.

I've been poking through the forums on the UT site, as well as some others, and haven't found a solution. It's my understanding that the installer is hard-coded to look for the files in a cdrom location, is that true? Is there any work around available for us? I found one, requiring opening the shell and executing some commands but we're trying to find a way to make it a little more painless of an install

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

I've tried installing using .img and .iso in grub.
both get hung up on loading cdrom drivers.

I'll double check which version we have on the grub disk. I know its 9.2.x
was looking for cdrom drivers something that was fixed in any 9.2.x release?

The .img file is a direct overwrite for the USB stick. It's quite involved getting the Untangle to install from a USB stick so we made an image file to create a bootable USB install stick.

So no way to install using grub?

I figured it was too good to be true :P
Ideally we wanted one flash drive with everything, but at least the img file works by itself. It's still way more convenient than a portable cdrom

GRUB didn't work for me either I wish there would have been a footnote next to the .img file because I wasted 5 hours troubleshooting hardware in my new server.

Are you saying the img written to a USB fails to install Untangle?

Not for me at least, that worked out well.
install was only failing through grub.
