I upgraded last night but I am unable to get the video resolution set correctly. I noticed that the system uses xorg-untangle-vesa.conf and not the default xorg.conf which is empty. I did have the box connected to a KVM during the upgrade so I am assuming this is the "fix" that was put into place to help with the KVM switches and video resolutions but when I try adding to the xorg-untangle-vesa.conf my changes get deleted upon restart. I have it plugged into a monitor now.
any ideas? I am going to just re install from ISO ... Last edited by cbrspeed; 04-16-2009 at 01:06 PM.. Reason: going to re install it |

Thank you for helping. I did read that post and others before posting but my problem was that it no longer used xorg.conf and any edits to xorg-untangle-vesa.conf would get removed upon restart.
It is running great but I am going to try installing it again this week with a monitor hooked up and not the KVM. |

I also ran into this problem using a KVM. I did have better results by installing without the KVM connected (i.e. It seemed to work, and afterwards I could hook it back up to the KVM).
YMMV, but another less-desirable workaround would be to see if (Ctrl_Alt_+) and (Ctrl_Alt_-) can help you immediately switch to a better resolution. Ultimately, the problem appears to be a refresh issue, which might mean you'd have to switch to a terribly low resolution to get video working that way. Just thought I'd throw out another potential workaround. |

There is a comment in the default xorg.conf that it is only updated IF it hasn't been altered from the original version. You may want to try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" to regenerate the default xorg.conf which you can then edit as described in the other thread. |
