Test intrusion prevention?

Hello, i need to be able to test that the rules are working for intrusion prevention for alerting purposes. I searched the web on how to test snort, and there isnt really a clear answer on how this is done.

Does anyone know an easy way to trigger a log in the intrusion prevention application??

Assuming you have not received an answer to this question (and maybe someone else can benefit from this as well), here is a good article on how to test Snort. It's long, but the gist is, download Metasploit to another machine and fire it at your UT box.
