I get GCN on a regular basis (Government Computer News). Yes, the deadline for IPV6 on government backbones is past.

"Putting IPv6 to work. The deadline has passed, and government backbone networks are enabled for IPv6. How can you use the technology to get your job done?"

...and other such noise.

There is now a push to get IPV6 down to the device level soonest. Especially with all of the money the Feds are dumping into the IT infrastructure. I just don't want UT to get caught with their pants down.

Yes... I got caught up in the hype over this. Should have known better.

It happens. I was a 25B30 (information technology systems analyst) with the US army and I know all about the ip6 roll out. Like the DTV mandate, some dill hole over at the OMB decided that IP6 was a necessary change, even though they couldn't tell us why, or how, or when. This is typical, and the deadline will come and go, and it will be extended.

I just think its funny that in this economy, with record deficits, were spending money ($4-6B) to overhaul our networks to ip6 when there is no benefit or advantage to be gained. Were just doing it to do it.
