    Default Installation drops into Knoppix

    Hi

I'm trying to install from a CD I just created. I created and verified it using ImgBurn from an image downloaded today.

I'm installing on a Dell PowerEdge Server with the following spec.

    Dual 667Mhz Pentium II
    512MB RAM
26 GB Storage in RAID 5
    2 x NICS

I get the untangle splash screen when booting from the CD but then it drops into knoppix, this is the tail of the screen output.

    Scanning for USB Devices.... Done
Can't Find KNOPPIX Filesystem (Sorry dropping you into a very limited shell please press reset to exit)

    Knoppix#

    Thanks for any help

    Sean

what kind of raid controller are you using? you can try installing it on single drive ( jbod setup) or install it on a non-raid controller. Also, if you could check downloaded image integrity.

Trying to install it on a different machine, the installation wizard has come up now, the mouse appears to work but nothing happens when I click the Next button.

depends on what cpu and ram you may have, it usually takes a little longer on the gui setup part.

This machine has a Pentium 4 and I've just thrown another 512MB of RAM in it.

    fingers crossed

yeah, with only 512megs, the GUI can be slow.

(In fact, I would not leave the GUI running locally on low end machines after setup - it uses up CPU and memory)

How do you do that? I have it set up as a bridge and it's all working fine.

Additionally I was wondering if you had any data on the overhead each app has on a box, I only really want it initially for the web proxy, content filtering and intrusion detection. The machine its running on is

    P4 2GHz
    768MB RAM
    50GB HD

    Cheers

P.S. I'm impressed, nice bit of kit.

I would just close the admin interface after you're done messing with it.
If you leave the admin interface logged in it takes up CPU and memory which competes with the untangle server processing. Not a huge deal, but if you're not using it you might as well close it.

You can also log in remotely from another machine...

    Default Same issue

I am having the exact same issue on a Dell Precision 360.
    No RAID.

Ah, this is the best part. I just looked over my shoulder as I was posting this and after a 3rd reboot it is booted to the first screen of the installation! I wonder if just leaving it in that shell will eventually let it boot fully?

    Off to install now.
