Default Transition from Clear to Comcast: UT box stopped working

For whatever reason I posted last night and it did not go through. I am going to provide the explanation again, in this post.

And in all fairness to UT, the box is working. My network though has no more internet connectivity. Now, I am no PC expert here so please be gentle with me.
    -------------------

I used CLEAR ISP for 2 years, reasonably happy with it. Moved house. Changed to Comcast. My network came to a halt, losing internet connectivity.

I've had the UT box for a while, since about version 8.2 Nothing fancy, an older laptop, suffice to say it did the job. Currently running 9.2.1.

NETWORK MAP: Simple, no need for diagrams.

MODEM (clear or comcast) --> D-LINK DIR 825 Router --> a few desktops and (wireless) laptops. DHCP routing was provided by DLINK.

STEP 1 (before the switch to Comcast)

    D-Link Router setup:
    Static IP
    IP Address: 192.168.15.4
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Defaulte Gateway: 192.168.15.1
    Primary DNS: 66.233.235.12
    Secondary DNS: 75.94.255.12
    MAC: DLINK's own MAC

    Untangle Setup
    External Interface: Dynamic
    Address: 192.168.15.2
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.15.1
    Primary DNS: 192.168.15.1
    Internal Interface: Bridge to External
Accessible over the internal network at ht-tps://192.168.15.2

    Me = Happy

    STEP 2: Switch to Comcast
I did some research on the forums first and came across the following threads (saved locally as PDFs):
    a) UT won't pull dynamic address from Comcast
    b) Comcast Dynamic IP and OpenDNS

All in all, after the Comcast dude had me connect a laptop directly to the modem and download stuff and then activate the modem, I unplugged the modem. Left it for a while, grabbed a cold one, came back, plugged my external UT NIC cable into the modem, then had UT pull a dynamic IP from Comcast...but NO internet access on my network.

This is what UT pulled from Comcast:

    Address: aa.bb.ccc.dd
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: aa.bb.ccc.d
    Primary DNS: 75.75.75.75
    Secondary DNS: 75.75.76.76

As mentioned: there was no Internet on my internal network.

STEP 3: Tweaking the D-Link Router

I tweaked the D-Link Router with the exact same settings as the info pulled by the UT box; meaning:

    IP: aa.bb.ccc.dd
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: aa.bb.ccc.d
    Primary DNS: 75.75.75.75
    Secondary DNS: 75.75.76.76

AND I copied the MAC address of the EXTERNAL Untangle NIC to the router.

No internet on the network. The UT box does have internet access as I could surf the net opening a new tab from the user interface.

STEP 4: Plugged the Router directly into the Comcast modem
    I have internet instantly.

    STEP 5: Troubleshooting

At this point I was concerned that the UT box doesn't work. Plugged the UT box into the router, connected the INTERNAL NIC to a switch, plugged a PC into the switch. With dynamic (external) and bridge (internal) settings, the UT box pulls as expected an IP on my internal network, gets internet going and the computer connected to the switch can access the internet.
    ----------------
I am pretty sure the problem that I am facing is due to my lack of knowledge about networking. And probably has to do with me not knowing how to configure the router and UT or both. Therefore I would appreciate any help in this regard. I wish someone could do it for me but I am sure that's not happening.

Let's see what else: I cannot currently access my UT from within the network when set up as intended (see STEP 2). My Router IP is 192.168.1.2; the subnet is 255.255.255.0; and the DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 to 124. The UT has DHCP and DNS servers disabled.

Where do I go from here ? Thanks.

If you want to give Untangle your public IP, you'll need to change the internal to a static interface and enable NAT. Comcast isn't going to give you more than one public IP so bridge mode won't work.

You have to be patient with some ISPs' DHCP. If you unplug one device you probably won't be able to get a lease on another device (with a different MAC) until the old one expires.

Thank you. I will try to implement the suggested changes and will report back either successful or asking for more guidance.

It would probably be easier to re-run the setup wizard in config->system and just follow the instructions. If you want to run without their modem doing nat just select router instead of bridge.

Not happening. I followed your advice but I was not able to connect. What else can I try.

In this thread, the user wants the same configuration as me.
    htttp://forums.untangle.com/networking/29723-how-install-ut-bridge-mode-allowing-wireless-router-do-all-dhcp.html

The question is: why did it work when I used the CLEAR modem ? What is different now?

I followed the advice here but in vain.
It's likely the way you've connected everything.

Untangle as a router, DHCP disabled on the Linksys, Linksys LAN IP address configured to something that matches the network Untangle is making with it's Internal interface, then connect Untangle's Internal to one of the switch ports on the Linksys.

It sounds like you were previously running bridge and now you want to run as a router?

You can't just plug things in. You have to configure them.
Use the above linked tests to help you figure out what is misconfigured.
If you can't ping Untangle's internal IP, you won't be able to reach the internet period. It doesnt matter what settings you change.

Nope, I cannot ping the UT's internal address.
Look I will run it as a router, if I must. I followed that setup and did not work.

    OK, thats one test.

What is Untangle's internal IP? What is your computer's IP?
What happens when you ping Untangle's internal IP? Is Untangle serving DHCP? Is your machine configured for DHCP? Is your computer getting a DHCP address from Untangle?

I keep posting that link because I can almost guarantee it will solve you issue.

I know you are trying to help me and I am very grateful.
I just reverted back to a configuration that allows me to have internet. But just prior to that I went one more time through the motions of this time setting up UT as a router, and assigning DHCP addresses.

    1. Plugged a PC into a switch
    2. Plugged the switch into internal NIC of the UT box
    3. Plugged the external NIC of the UT box into the Comcast modem.
    4. Ran a new setup from System > Config > Wizard, set up the UT box as router.
    5. I did not get an IP address for the PC, i cannot ping anything 8.8.8.8 ; google etc on the client box
    6. I can navigate/ping on the Untangle server what I want, except the connected PC

I think it calls for a reinstall.

The UT's internal IP was assigned to be 172.16.0.1

Huh? did you pick that IP? Why? Is DHCP enabled?
Is Untangle's external IP a public IP? Note that aa.bb.cc.ddd is NOT A valid IP.It must be numbers.
