Default Which UT tool to use to monitor uploads?

I don't know which forum is best for this query but here goes.

Which UT tool would allow me to monitor upload usage? When connecting to the network UT is installed on, with my Cisco VPN, the connection seems slower than it should be. I've ruled out many things but I'm not confident that my upload isn't the bottleneck. There is an email server in-house but other than that there should be very little upload usage. I would like to confirm that usage.

    Thank you!

Via the UI your only option is the Bandwidth Monitor that is in the Bandwidth Control module.

Via SSH you have jnettop, and iftop to play with.

Thank you sky. Looking at bandwidth monitor it appears to give a nice snap shot but nothing in the way of reporting. Am I missing something or should I just turn on auto-refresh and keep an eye on it when I suspect a problem?

You're right that it is indeed a snapshot. Auto-Refresh is as close to live as you can get in the GUI.

If you want real live, your only options are in the terminal. The two tools I listed before, jnettop and iftop both give good life readouts of the traffic on a given interface.

That said, the Bandwidth Monitor gives a TON more information, and is easier to relate to what is going on in Untangle so you can make adjustments.

Do you have the attack blocker installed and have you looked at it's logs? This will tell you if you have a machine opening up a lot of TCP sessions. That *could* indicate an infection, bittorrent use, etc. Usually anything over a reputation of 100 is something you should check in on. Could be nothing, could also be the cause of your problems. You may one day find something interesting here. Today is not that day. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either.
