    Default QOS Quality

    Hey all,

Im hoping someone would be able to share some of their experiences using the untangle QOS feature. How well does it work and were there problems you could foresee with it.

I'm looking to implement an untangle server in our office and will rely heavily on the QOS feature for our IP phones (which all run over the internet).

SIP lines will have top priority.

    Any wisdom would be great!

    Thanks

SIP gets automatic high priority regardless.

However, I have regular issues with UDP streams breaking down if TCP gets too heavy on the unit. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it, so I have no clue if it's my configuration, my box is under powered, or something else is wrong. My Untangle hardware here is pushing 5 years old! So it could be anything.

QoS works at layer 3 and is not aware of whatever layer 4 protocol is working on top of IP - be it TCP, UDP, ICMP, whatever. The only input it has is the priority your rules assigned the session and the packets in it.
