My setup was as follows
DSL router -> 8 port Gigabit Network switch -> client computers Now it looks like this DSL router -> Untangle Server -> 8 port Gigabit Network switch -> client computers I have Untangle setup with DHCP to give the client computers their IP address. Do I have to turn off DHCP on the DSL router. Is there anything else I have to do for setup. I just followed the wizard pretty much when installing Untangle. My goal is to able to log individual internet usage and eventually block internet to all users except for 2 people. The extra features of Untangle is just a bonus |

Are you getting your IP (for Untangle) via DHCP from your DSL modem/router? I have a configuration where I have static IP's and I leave my DHCP on my modem/router so that I can utilize the ports on the modem/router for diagnosis/testing purposes, and then have my static IP's just plugged into UT.

raditude, can you explain your setup a little further and how you configure
I just setup the software so i'm still looking how to best setup. Right now, I have the cable/dsl router setup with DHCP and I have the Untangle Server setup as router with DHCP as well. Last edited by ronf119; 06-14-2009 at 06:15 PM.. |

I have cable/dsl modem/router (4 port) ext IP (from ISP), with internal ip 10.x.x.x/24 > UT (now as stated above I have static IP's, so my ext_if on UT is that way), UT int_if is 192.168.x.x/24.
Now I have tried your setup cable/dsl (with internet IP on ext_if), int_if has 10.x.x.1/24 address > UT ext_if 10.x.x.2/24, with int_if 192.168.x.1/24. The biggest thing is that in order to get ports from the internet to UT, you will need to port forward (or 1 to 1 NAT) in your cable/dsl router/modem. I also have DHCP enabled on the cable/dsl modem/router, as well as on the LAN behind UT. You have to be careful and thoughtful when working with double NAT, as it gets tricky... it would be best if you could get your cable/dsl router/modem to just bridge so that the ext_if of UT had the internet routeable IP, then you could control everything in UT. |

I'm trying bridge mode at the moment since it seems to be easier to setup on a working network. That way if I run into future problems, its just an easy cable move to get UT out of the picture and the network is back up and running
