    Default T1 CSU/DSU Router

I am looking for two T1 CSU/DSU routers for a client. I am familiar with Cisco and Adtran product offerings, but my client has had bad experiences with both.

I leaning towards Vyatta, but I'm open to all suggestions...

Also, has anyone had any success/experience building a T1 router with FreeBSD (pfsense) or Linux distro?

I have UT and PFSense on T1s...but I have the ISP provide me with an ethernet interface with their CPE. (happens to be Cisco at most, Adtran at one other)

Bad experiences with Adtran? someone doesn't know how to configure the router... those things are rocks.

Also, the Cisco routers with T1 CSUs, those CSUs are original Adtran product.

Most of the time, you don't need CSUs as the ISP provides the CSU for you. The only case I haven't seen this to be the case is full voice PRI.

I've never had any problems with Adtran routers, but the client is looking for an alternative.

I've seen some DIY T1 Linux router tutorials using Sangoma, Digium and Rhino PCI/PCI-e T1 cards. Since I've never built/used/tested one myself, I've been looking at using Vyatta. I've been using the Vyatta community edition for some time, and I like it.

Anyone used 3com T1 routers? Any other recommendations?

I had one client with a 3com router... and I'll never do that again. If that's an answer for you. :P

The Digium stuff is good hardware.

I used to use Netopia routers, but I am pretty sure those are long gone. And I never really liked them.

I'll take your word for it on the 3com routers. I kind of like 3com managed and web-managed switches, but not so much.

Here's a pretty funky alternative to the traditional (Adtran / Cisco dominated) T1 router environment. The RAD Communications Ethernet over T1 Extender. I think it supports VLAN trunking, so the managed switches could do the static routes for the point-to-point!

Not really considering using it, but interesting...

    I can't believe there is a market for such things... if you want a point-to-point T1... order a point-to-point T1.
