I am not sure about all the States, and other countries, but in Oregon it is an "at will" employment State, meaning you can be terminated for no reason.

Arizona is a "right to work" state. I can walk into any office at any time, point at a random employee, and tell the owner I'll do his job for half his pay. And the employer can terminate that employee on the spot and give me the job.

Now that said, if this story is true it's really quite sad. An employee should never be saying anything negative about a given product in a public manner. At least not in such a way that it can't be used productively to fix the issues he has.

(Yeah I know, pot, kettle, black)

Apple is nothing more than a perception company. They sell based on image, so you can't damage that image and expect to remain employed.

Besides, considering the nature of the comments on that article... I think Apple would have a far larger PR black eye from suing a former employee into oblivion than they already have due to the comments.

Apple could have taken the high road. Something like, after this incident, we have an open company wide suggestion box for our employees. We will provide some training to our employees about the proper code of conduct.
