Default Droid 2.0.1 + Openvpn Works

I finally broke down and got a droid. I managed to get it to connect to Untangles Openvpn. It is not an easy trip. There is a lot of confusion out there. I will probably be adding some more here, sorry. I really didn't take good notes, this is mostly from my sleep deprived memory. And things are updated by the minute. Hopefully they will get easier.

Read everything threw to the end before doing anything and it is not my fault if you brick your phone. Do at your own risk! That said nothing happened to mine. I have no idea what may happen with future updates at this point. But I suppose some hacker will cover my but or I will go back to factory default and start over.

Get the sdk kit from http://developer.android.com/index.html you will need a little time to get used to this. Never was able to root the virtual droid but oh well. You can use this to do things on the real phone too.

Then read the readme from source forge. http://sourceforge.net/projects/tunneldroid/ After fits and starts and redoing things a few times it all came together. The final piece was an email from the developer in less than 1 hour. Great suport for a free app. The droid 2.0.1 has either no or an empty /system/xbin. So you need to create a sym-link.
    ln -s /system/bin /system/xbin
So if xbin is not there don't create it, do the link instead. If somebody confirms this I will edit to remove some of the confusion.

There seems to be a lot of diferences in android software as this link from the readme shows. http://code.google.com/p/get-a-robot..._Droid_Support. And I did not need to install the VPN_Connections_v096.apk just follow the preparations for it. Then install Tunneldroid from the market.

If I get one for the wife I will do a proper writeup.

    Good luck,
    Don

PS: This is not the off topic forum so I hope it does not get crapped up with political stuff. If it does mods please close it and delete it. Thanks!

    Nice work.
If you have the apk files and a simple step by step i might be able to generate a nsis installer.

Unfortunatly it is more work than just an apk at the moment. You have to get root access and do stuff at the command line. Then install tunnelldroid. The openvpn files end up in /sdcard/openvpn. Tunneldroid is on the market. If I get a chance to look for it I can post it if you need.

Not sure if that is what you asked for. I am a little sleep deprived and am going skiing for 4 days.

    Thanks,
    Don
