    Default Questions from a newbie

OK, I've got a few questions before I dive into Untangle. Hopefully these are simple enough. What I'm doing is connecting 2 offices via VPN over cable internet. There's 1 Windows 2k3 server at the main office. The remote office will be site based (not individual clients).

The Untangle box(es) will be replacing their routers for simplicity and manageability.

    1) OpenVPN cannot act as a site for Microsoft Server VPN, correct? If I want site & server, both have to be running OpenVPN. Is this correct? Is this due to OpenVPN running IPSec?

    2) Are there any caveats I need to understand before diving in? Shares will be accessible, AD authentication will still work?

Sorry if these are simple questions! I'm new to Linux and am trying to break free of the MS strangle (at least a little bit!)

    Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to the forums.
    1) Yes, if you decide to use the Untangle's OpenVPN to do the site to site VPN, that means that each location will need to have the Untangle installed. The OpenVPN is based on SSL. Most likely, your Miscrosoft VPN is PPTP.

    2) OpenVPN is only the connection between the two location and really does not have anything to do with AD. You can enable the DNS override so that resources are accessible by the names instead of IP addresses.
to be understood, you must first understand.
