    Default Mapping Drives by Name

I have a laptop user that spends 75% of the week in the office an 25% external. The user is part of the domain and utilizes a login script to map drives and printers. All the drives are mapped by name and not IP.

When the user is external and connected via OVPN they can only browse network hosts via IP address not name. I don't want to reconfigure the user as more poeple will start using OVPN while external if we can get this working.

If I add an entry for the server within the hosts file on the external laptop I can browse to the server by name...

The user is on a laptop with XP SP3 and connecting to a Windows Server 2003.

Is there any way to allow DNS to export to clients without having to modify all the laptop hosts file?

    welcome to the forums!

try dns override and set it to your internal DNS servers
make sure they are exported too.
