Default Can't ping anything on my network from remote client

I setup a simple OpenVPN, created a client, and installed the client on the client machine. I can connect to my VPN, but I can't ping ANYTHING on my network, not even the Untangle server. I have tried to ping by IP address too, no luck. Any idea why this might be happening?

P.S. I did notice that, immediately after I connect, I can ping machines on my network, but only for a few seconds. After a few seconds, I can no longer ping anything.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you can really do it for a few seconds but then can't, then something is shutting off the packets. Maybe a stupid "firewall/security" product running on your remote machine?

Otherwise, you need to use the tracert command and see where the packets are going and where they are being stopped.

OpenVPN works for hundreds of thousands of people on Untangle, so it's something in your network that is awry.

If you want us to be able to help you troubleshoot this in the forums, you'll need to post a ton more information.

    1.) OSes for machines involved
2.) routing table on the client
3.) IP Addressing scheme for remote network, Untangle "home" network, OpenVPN client pool, etc.
4.) Output of a tracert from the client.

Harley, that's not the answer to *every* VPN issue.

You need to answer mrunkel's questions, that will provide better information to troubleshoot from.

Just an hour ago, I reinstalled my OpenVPN client. When I connected to my network via OpenVPN client, I was able to resolve all names and connect to everything during the entire session (about 30 minutes). When I disconnected and reconnected, I was not able to ping anything again.

When the problem happens, according to tracert, requests to IPs on my Untangle network are going through the gateway on the other network my remote machine (client) is a part of. This seems like a problem. There is no gateway listed for my VPN connection on my client.

The client machine is Windows XP.

My Untangle home network is 192.168.50.0, my VPN network is 192.168.51.0.
