Open VPN and Vista Connection Issue Solved.

Hello all. I battled with my Vista machine trying everything to make a connection to the Untangle server, forward through it and connect to my work computer. No luck. I was constantly plagued by an error message referring to

Route addition failed using CreateIpForwardEntry. One or more arguments are not correct. [if_index=18]

I then stumbled onto the link below, which said to add the following two lines to the end of your configuration file

route-method exe
route-delay 2

I don't know if it will work for everyone, but I now have my connection and it works great.

Actually those two lines aren't required. Vista + OpenVPN means you need the RC15 client. The issue is that the released version of OpenVPN isn't compatible with Vista. The current release candidate works, I have yet to have an issue with it. Also, the program needs to have administrative rights to create the route. So run OpenVPN GUI as admin.

Thanks for the information sky-knight. I'll give rc15 a try when I get the chance. I wasn't too worried about versions, I was just happy to get a connection, but I'll get the correct version which could alleviate any other potential problems in the future.
