also, if you are in the bridge mode, make sure that the interfaces are correct. You can create a test block rule using web filters and see what the block page looks like. If you get the plain white text only block page, your interfaces are reversed. If you get the normal block page, that means that your interfaces are correct.

If you are in the router mode, this does not apply to you. Anyways, if you are in the bridge mode and your interfaces are reversed, it could cause the mail scanning to act like this.

I would suggest you follow Tony's tip above and reply with the results of this.

There is no magic pill. You will need to debug the network in order to get meaningful help.

Sorry for the late late late followup.

I did, in fact, have the interfaces hooked up backwards.

A simple thing to get wrong but also super simple to fix.
