    Default Mac antivirus signatures?

I recently installed Kaspersky and wondered if it checks for malware for the Mac as well as for Windows?

yes, the antivirus sigs apply to all OSs and included signatures for all OSs (although obviously most signatures are for win32 viruses which are most common)

also you won't be allowed to download a windows virus to a mac machine, or vice versa.

Clam 95.3 has about 5-6 of the 11-12 Trojans and DNS changer in it's signature. Clam will be putting more support into the 96.0 engine for OS X next year.

There are no viruses for OS X, only malware/Trojans.

Run Intego VirusBarrier X6 if you want to be safe on a Mac. Intego is the best out there. It is the Gold Standard in which all Mac anti-malware is to be judged. They just released their new version X6 a week ago. With new pricing (thank God).

Nothing even comes close to it!

I've never used Intego, but let me point out that Kaspersky now has an osx native app for av.

The biggest threat a mac poses is acting as a Typhoid Mary passing along files which may contain macro viruses, which can infect poorly configured office installs on pc's.

Obviously, NO av product can lay claim to av greatness on a platform which hasn't ever had a native virus in the wild. (OS9 and lab proof-of-concept doesn't count.)

Scanning at the gateway is probably a good idea with respect to macs.
If an osx virus ever starts to propogate in the wild, it will take down most mac's as their users are ignorant with respect to malware, and the vast majority of systems are unprotected.

I have Kaspersky installed on our macs - but if a real threat were to materialize I'd probably just take them off the network for a while while I watch the carnage.

I love it when they found on Apple support website the article that stated that you should have not only 1, but 2 or more AV's installed on your Apple based computer.
