I have a similar question to one in a closed thread with this same title. We have a small office with 8 pcs and one server. We have a dozen IP phones and four printers. The phones use a distinct gateway and internet connection and could even use a different IP subnet if necessary. Printers are only used locally.
The difference in price between the 10 user license and the next tier would keep us on ClamAV alone. This is more about determining how I can purchase Kaspersky frugally than how I can avoid paying at all. If we had but one internet connection with Untangle as the gateway, could bypass rules be used to ration Kaspersky licenses? After all, the phones would be bypassed anyway. With Untangle as gateway to one internet connection and a netgear router and distinct internet connection for phones, does Kaspersky care about the devices for which Untangle never routes data? If that is a problem, would changing phone IP addresses to a different network such as 192.168.2.x for which no Untangle interface had an IP in that range assigned make us compliant? Or is it MAC ID's on the lan rather than IP addresses that matter? |

You're making this much too complicated.
You have 8 PCs and 1 server. You fall under the 10 user license.

Untangle employee dmorris answered this quite differently in another thread (just four or five threads down from this one).
They said an office with 10 ip phones and 10 pcs needed a 50 user license, and that, "pricing is based on the number of devices on your network." I'm not sure whether the license is just a legal thing or if it is enforced by the software, but that doesn't really make much difference in the end, because we would desire to be compliant. |

Since his answer was a year ago and mine was today, who you going to believe?
![]() You can take my word for it. You are ok with the 10 user license. We protect people, not devices.

Yeah I count "devices that benefit from the filtration".
I don't count IP Phones, or printers. I do count PCs, game consoles, and smart phones.
